Five Best Attractions in Cordoba, Spain

I recently visited Cordoba for a day and was impressed by its architecture and culture. Even though it was a few hours trip from Seville I would like to visit it again. Some of the attractions which you shouldn’t miss are:-

Cordoba Mosque – Well, without a doubt this beautiful Moorish mosque is not to be missed. Build during the Caliphate time this Andalusian masterpiece is still visited by tourists from around the globe. The massive columns and the architecture within is impressive and shows the rich culture. Later, this mosque was also converted into a cathedral and now it stands as an iconic structure showcasing the diversity of Cordoba and Spain in general.

Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos – If you have visited the Real Alcazar in Seville this place might seem interesting as well due to the grand history attached to it. Once a palace to the Caliphates this place depicts the typical Andalusian style and the garden with fountain is not to be missed as it still gets used and illuminates in the late summer afternoons. A perfect place to gather and enjoy the ruins.

Judeira – Walk around this iconic Jewish quarter of Cordoba and be delighted by the beautiful patios, enchanting squares and mesmerising ambience. There are two iconic monuments as well which are the highlight of this Jewish quarter. The quaint streets and the narrow walkways surely make for a charming walk.

Roman Bridge and Calahorra Tower – Make a visit to the Calahorra museum here and explore the past of the Andalusian history. You can also marvel at this 16 arched bridge which was build after Caesar’s win over Pompey the Great.

Castle of Almodovar – About 22km away from Cordoba is this castle which was used as a military fortress. Due to it’s strategic location it acted as a great defence for the city. Today you can explore the ruins, hidden underground passageways, and the tower.

Cordoba unlike the cosmopolitan cities of Spain is quieter but it’s still visited by numerous tourists. If you like to stay here you can venture out to the market, enjoy the Flamenco show or savour over the Spanish Cuisine.
