The main town Chora is the capital of Andros and the Embirikou Street is a fantastic starting point for exploring the island. This charming town is full of history, and there are plenty of things to see and do here. One of the most interesting attractions is the Nautical Museum, which showcases the rich maritime history of the island. Visitors can also take a boat trip to visit the 36-metre-tall lighthouse and learn more about the island’s nautical heritage. Kairis Library is another must-visit spot in Chora, it has an extensive collection of books and manuscripts on Greek history and culture. The Panagia Thalassini Church in the old harbour is another historical landmark worth checking out. Panagia Theoskepasti is another church located on top of a hill in Chora, this church is known for its unique location and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding area. The Archeological Museum built-in 1981 is also worth a visit for history buffs. This museum has an extensive collection of artefacts and exhibits showcasing the history and culture of the island.
The main square in Chora is called Kairi Square and features a large fountain at its centre. This square is a popular gathering spot for locals and tourists alike and is a great place to relax and enjoy the island’s laid-back atmosphere. The ruins of a Venetian castle from the 13th century are also located here, adding to the historical charm of the town. The idealistic Monastery of Panachrantou which was built in 969 Ad is also very close to Chora town, if you have time do intend to visit it.
The Springs of Dionysus in Menites is another must-visit destination on Andros. This mountainous village is located in the heart of the island and is renowned for its natural springs. This area is a great place for hiking, and the scenic surroundings make it a peaceful retreat for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
Must Visit Caves – The Cave of Foros is a natural wonder located just 4km away from Chora. This cave is estimated to be 4-5 million years old, and guided tours are available for visitors to explore its unique formations. Another cave to check out is Trypes in Andros, located on Zorkos beach. This small cave is a natural gem and is a must-visit for nature enthusiasts.

River trekking is also a popular activity, and the island’s lush green landscapes offer plenty of opportunities for adventure. Apart from the numerous water sports, rock climbing, and olive oil tours, there are also many tour agencies making tailored itineraries according to your preferences. Road tripping along the island is also a fun way to see other places and to get the real feel of the place, my favourite route is from Korthi to Andros Town.

There are plenty of restaurants and cafes here, making it a great place to sample the local cuisine. The town of Batsi is another popular destination, known for its stunning beaches and traditional architecture. Visitors can stroll through the narrow streets and admire the old stone houses, or relax on the beach and enjoy the sun and sea. Ormos Korthiou is also worth checking out, it’s a small fishing village located in the south of the island. This traditional village is a great place to experience the local way of life, and there are several tavernas and cafes here serving fresh seafood and traditional Greek dishes. Finally, the town of Chalkoutsi, this scenic town is located on the northwest coast of the island and is known for its beautiful beaches and stunning scenery. There are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy here, including hiking, snorkelling and fishing.
